Fatwa 14: How can we reconcile having a positive expectation of Allah and fearing His punishment

In the Name of Allah, The Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Question
How can we reconcile having a positive expectation of Allah, based on the Qudsi Hadith:

(( I am as my servant expects Me to be ))

with fearing Allah's punishment, especially in light of the Ayah:

﴾ "let not the chief deceiver (Satan) deceive you about Allah" ﴿

 [Fatir, 5 ]

May Allah reward you with all good on our behalf.

Answer:
In The Name Of Allah The Most Gracious The Most Merciful, and may peace and blessings be upon the best of messengers, Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, the truthful, the trustworthy, who fulfilled his promises.
Dear brother, there is no contradiction here.
A believer should have a positive expectation of Allah Almighty and long for His Mercy and blessings. At the same time, he shouldn't become complacent by relying solely on Allah’s Mercy while neglecting obedience to Him, for this is one of the ways the chief deceiver (Satan) misleads people.
It is important to remember that having a positive expectation of Allah and hoping for His Mercy does not conflict with being mindful of His punishment and fearing His displeasure so that we can avoid them.
